Small Things Repeated Consistently

“Small Things Repeated Consistently Produce the Biggest Results in the Shortest Amount of Time”.

This phrase also connects with another one of my favourite sayings, “How you do anything is how you do everything”.

The basic message is that if you are consistently hap-hazard, negligent, or irresponsible with your finances, or if you are consistently strategic, managing and responsible with them you will see results quickly that line up with your activity level.

The part that you need to remember, however, is that simply changing your activity isn’t necessarily sustainable either. The reason we make certain decisions is because we have learned to believe certain things about the world and about ourselves. Finance is a powerful shadow of our inner life. This is a challenging thing for me to write, as I know it’s a challenging concept to accept about yourself. In my life, I had been accustomed to a certain lifestyle because I earned a high income. I earned a high income because I had a vision for how I expected to live my life. This vision was influenced by the messages and experiences I learned growing up.

“Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he” (Proverbs 29:18 KJV). We see the importance of vision played out in any area of life where there are goals: health, fitness, parenting, relationships, work, and overall lifestyle. How do you see yourself living? What are you doing? Who are you being in all the areas of your life? What do you believe about yourself and your life purpose?

There’s something I learned about vision during the years where disappointment, stress, struggle and loss pulled me into a deep dark pit. The lesson is that worldly vision can actually exaggerate the enemy’s plans to make us feel insecure, insignificant, worthless; that we’re a loser and our life is worthless. If we experienced small disappointments when we were younger and those seemingly insignificant events (or perhaps major disappointments that you thought you could move beyond) were repeated in different areas of your life, they develop into thought patterns that will be reflected in your language and your behavior.

If you have any doubt that has crept into your life as a result of ‘small things repeated consistently’ those small doubts will at some point end up producing a result in your life. This is way, simply changing your behavior won’t be enough to change your results because your vision will be based on the mindset that lead you to where you are today – a vision that has been influenced by some degree of doubt.

The Amplified translation of Proverbs 29:18 provides insight that can help to create a shift so that ‘how you do anything’ can lead to the ‘small things repeated consistently, that produce the biggest POSITIVE results in the shortest amount of time’. “Where there is no vision [no revelation of God and His word], the people are unrestrained; But happy and blessed is he who keeps the law [of God] (Proverbs 29:18 AMP).

God has written His law (His words) in our heart (see Romans 2:15) and when we allow His vision for our life, and His love for us to govern our thoughts, then we will live according to His blessings from His abundance. Otherwise, we are subject to the voice of the enemy who will take every opportunity he can to throw us into that pit of worthlessness, failure and discouragement.

God’s plans are that we “submit to [Him] and to resist the devil so he will flee from [us]” (James 4:7). Then you will be “not conforming to the pattern of this world, but [will] be transformed by the renewing of your mind. [So] you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will” (Romans 12:2).

It’s a constant dialogue with the Lord that guides us through anything and everything to produce the biggest blessings in our life – one small grateful step at a time! Today, ask God to reveal areas of your life where there are wounds that have created doubt and/or negative beliefs in your life. From there you can repent of agreeing with these negative thoughts and ask His forgiveness and to heal you of those wounds. From there, you will find that opportunities will begin to appear, He will give you wisdom about moving forward (or not) and that doors will open and blessings will flow into your life in increasing abundance!
